Yuriy Shevchenko, PhD is one of those rare innovative scientific executives with over 20 years of expertise in genetic diagnostics. Yuriy has led R&D, lab operations, and has been in genetics since the days before human genome had been sequenced. Yuriy is a pro at designing clinical diagnostic assays and creating automated, high-throughput clinical lab workflows under CLIA/CAP/NYSDOH/FDA regulations.
"Since my days at NIH, I pride myself on our ability as an industry to really drive continued innovation in molecular diagnostics to advance patient care. My passion is to keep helping labs achieve transformational outcomes and accelerate their ability to deliver clinical insights to patients and researchers alike. Digitizing lab operations is a key component to those efforts, as genetic testing and molecular tumor profiling achieve a maturity in demand and scale which we could not have anticipated would arrive as quickly as it has."

As a former NIH scientist, Yuriy brings a wealth of expertise and leadership experience to both clinical lab innovation and assay development r&d. With a strong background in clinical workflow as well as scientific genetics research, Yuriy excels in driving transformational change across lab environments. He leverages his extensive knowledge to implement advanced strategies and cutting-edge technologies, focusing on not only the how but also the why in lab assay development and workflow automation. Yuriy thrives on tackling complex challenges, enhancing lab efficiency, and advancing clinical outcomes while integrating benchside and bioinformatics tools.
Yuriy came to the United States in 1996 after completing his Ph.D. in bioorganic chemistry to serve at the National Institute of Health (NIH) doing genetic research, co-founded GeneDx, led several teams at Mount Sinai, and later Sema4. Yuriy more recently migrated west with his wife and daughter to settle in California, where he has served in leadership roles at Ambry Genetics, Curative, and Tempus.
Yuriy’s specialties include genetic diagnostics research, whole genome, exome, panel, and transcriptome sequencing, targeted capture, MLPA, laboratory automation, genetic data interpretation, pharmacogenomics, oncology, women’s health, hematology, pathology, infectious diseases, multi-omics approaches, CLIA/CAP compliance, genetics, genomics, genetic testing, next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, molecular biology, process automation, scaling, and expansion.
