Improving Cancer Care Through Better Electronic Health Records

LEAP is an active participant in the good work of the HL7 standards committee and CodeX on things like the mCODE (minimal Common Oncology Data Elements). Yesterday, the Biden-Harris Administration kick-started the adoption of United States Core Data for Interoperability Plus Cancer (USCDI+ Cancer), a recommended minimum set of key cancer-related data elements to be included in a person’s electronic health record. This announcement builds on another Biden Cancer Moonshot initiative, the Enhancing Oncology Model (EOM), a new cancer care model developed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to lower costs, bring effective patient-centered care, and improve outcomes for those facing a cancer diagnosis.
